Meals on Wheels
A few years ago, I was itching for a personal project, one that would direct me to give back to my community in some way. I connected with Meals on Wheels in San Francisco. I shadowed the social workers’ client visits. I watched the impact firsthand of what a visitor offers to our elderly community members and to others in need. I listened to the clients’ stories and documented them in their unique, mostly solitary worlds. For many of them, their visits from a meal delivery or social worker visit is their only regular personal interaction. Through this project, I discovered a larger narrative that involved incorporating some of my studio style food shots of the prepared meals, taking portraits of the chefs and the other support staff, and documenting several visits to their commercial kitchen, I was able to round out the story of Meals on Wheels and create a library of images for them to use to help communicate their mission.
